The Question

What the referendum actually asks

Below is the exact ballot wording, followed by a neutral, clause-by-clause explanation.

Ballot wording

"Do you approve the establishment of a dedicated student services levy of $4.75 per credit hour, indexed to inflation, to fund housing, sustainability, and student governance initiatives, effective the following academic year?"

This single question bundles several distinct decisions. Prairie Ballot breaks each one apart on the issues page so you can weigh them independently.

What a change would do

The levy would be collected alongside tuition and allocated by a student-governed committee. The wording specifies indexing to inflation, which is explained under Tuition & fees.

What stays the same

The question does not alter existing tuition rates, existing residence contracts, or the academic calendar.

Quick clarifications

Is this a tuition increase?

It is a separate levy collected alongside tuition, not a change to the tuition rate itself. The distinction is covered under Tuition & fees.

Who decides how the money is spent?

A student-governed committee, per the ballot wording. Governance details are under Civic voice.

When would it take effect?

The following academic year, if approved. See the Timeline.
